going bananas

So we started the rice cereal last week and it was NOT a hit! I didn't try it, but Jonah let me know is was a form of gruel. He doesn't like gruel. So, we tried adding in some pureed bananas. He went nuts!! He loves him some bananas!! As you can tell by the picture, they taste better when smeared all over his face! Next food on the list - butternut squash.

"I luvs me some 'nanas!!"

This is his cool hat (or as his daddy calls it - the Alaska hat) that he finally got to wear. All of a sudden it got really cold here. So, he's been wearing hats for the past couple of days. He protested a bit over this one, but soon got used to it. Too cute!

first cereal

Today was Jonah's first taste of "real" food, if you can call it that! He had a very watered down version of rice cereal. As you can tell from the photo, he didn't think much of it. His daddy reassured him that food will get much better tasting. He did pretty good. We were able to get him to take maybe four or five bites before he puffed his bottom lip out and sealed his mouth shut! He seemed a bit thrown by the texture. He did do a good job of chewing it, though! We'll give it another try tomorrow.
What was that?!?

The calm before the storm. He's all ready to try something new!

He decided he'd rather eat his bib than the cereal!

great grandpa & grandma

This past weekend, we took Jonah up to the San Bernardino area to meet his great grandpa & grandma for the first time. He had a great time and enjoyed playing with his Grandma Tennie. She pulled out some really old toys that her kids enjoyed when they were little, and they were a hit with Jonah! We all went out to eat at Red Lobster and Jonah was such a good boy. He took a nap while we ate then he was ready to play with his Grandma again. It was a lot of fun to visit with them and we were so excited to introduce Jonah some special people.

jumping bean

Since Jonah keeps growing, we decided his little bouncy seat wasn't going to hang in there much longer. We didn't want him to get a complex since he is now weighing down the bouncy seat so much it almost touches the ground! So, we went ahead and got him a jumper. We took him to Babies R Us and let him test out the displays - we're a little tired of spending money on stuff he despises. He took to this one right away. So we ordered it from Walmart. (Hey, it was twenty dollars less and only cost 97 cents to ship!) His new model hasn't been weighed down by all the babies testing it out, like the one at Babies R Us, so his feet don't touch the ground yet. But we put one of Dan's science textbooks under him and he can bounce using the book. (Glad we could use that $100+ book for something useful!!) He seems to like it. He is still too little to swivel the seat around, but he loves to look at the dangling bird and frog and he likes to chomp on the little winged-bug.

San Diego Zoo

Yesterday we took Jonah for his first trip to the San Diego Zoo. It was a great day, with sunny warm weather and the animals were pretty active. We bought yearly passes, so it will be fun to see Jonah go throughout the year and discover the animals. He did really well in his stroller and the Baby Bjorn. He even laid back and took a nap all by himself! He didn't really seem to pay much attention to the animals, with the exception of the flamingos. The zookeeper was feeding them and it was a big, loud feeding frenzy between the birds. Not sure if it was the color of the birds, the action, the loud noises or maybe the stench that caught his attention - but he was captivated for a few minutes!

Jonah got to wear his cool new hat to keep the sun out of his eyes. And add to his "cool factor".

Don't mess with this duo!

where's the beef?

We finally got his highchair last weekend. He isn't eating solids yet, he should start rice cereal in about a week or so. But I couldn't wait to try out his new chair. So, I loaded him up in it so he could come in the kitchen and watch me (while I watched him!) while I cooked dinner. He seemed to like it pretty well, but I don't think he realizes he can move his hands. He kept them in his lap the entire time! I tried to get him to play with some toys on the tray, but he didn't seem to get it. I think he enjoyed looking around at everything from a higher level. We are anxiously awaiting his first tooth. He has been drooling like crazy for about a month and today I was able to see inside his mouth. I'm pretty sure I see the white spot on his gums where the tooth is moving in. Exciting!

hairy

Gotta love the hair! This is Jonah's look after taking a relaxing bath. He hates when I brush his hair, but he would have crazy bed head if I didn't. He takes a bath every night before bed. He loves to relax in the warm water and is learning to splash around in his little tub. It's pretty stinkin' cute!

Little Slugger

Jonah loves his new jammies that he got for Christmas from Auntie Suzanne and Uncle Jeff. They are SO cute!! I can't believe they are sized for six months and he is only three and a half months. What a chunk!

He just needs a tiny bat!

Earlier today we discovered Jonah likes to ride on Daddy's shoulders. Look out for the drool!!

Many Firsts

During our trip up north to visit our families for Christmas, Jonah had his first stay in a hotel. He did really well. We were worried that he might be loud at night, but he slept like a baby! :) He did wake up once each night, but was able to get back to sleep pretty easily and without much of a peep! We were really proud of him! We took his pack and play with his own sheet and blankets, so I don't think he noticed much of a change. This was our first hotel, which was really nice. Jonah was able to set up shop next to our bed, which made me feel better. We told the front desk that we were traveling with a baby, so they put us on the "family floor". It was kind of nice to hear other babies and kids. At our second hotel, we told them about the baby and they upgraded us to a suite. Sweet!! We had tons of room and a nice little couch. Jonah even had room for his baby gym and bouncy seat!!

Jonah enjoys stretching out on the big, comfy bed!

Jonah loves to watch tv. Bad, I know, but it is so hard to keep him away from it! At home, we try to position all of his toys away from the tv, but in the hotel it was a bit difficult. Here he is on the changing table craining his neck to watch Paula Dean. Silly boy!

Family Christmas

Jonah enjoys some time with his cousin, Allison.

Jonah meets Great-Grandma Mason for the first time.

Jonah enjoys a cold teether from Grammy. He has been chomping on his hands quite a bit and drooling like crazy, so Grammy got out the cold teether. It seems to be a hit!! Teeth must not be far away.

Pom Pom give Jonah some cuddle time.

After Christmas at home with just the three of us, we packed our bags and headed north for Christmas with the family. We drove through the night so Jonah would stay asleep. He did really good and slept the entire five hour drive! He even slept in til about seven, providing Mommy and Daddy with about five hours of sleep! He got to meet all of his Mason cousins, his aunt and his uncles. He loved them all and made sure to leave a little bit of drool on them!

Jonah with Uncle Jeff, who is awaiting his own little Gavin in March. Jonah can't wait to have a little cousin to play with!
