Day Out with Thomas

So I added these pictures after I had already completed the blog. Sorry they are so out of order! This is Henry and Dan showing off Henry's tattoo.....on Dan. Henry got very upset when the tattoo guy pulled his sleeve up. So Dan took the tattoo!

My cute little Sweetpea getting his tattoo of Rosie.

Very proud of his new Rosie!

We took the boys to Day Out with Thomas again this year. It was so much fun. It was actually more fun than last year, partly because we knew what to expect and partly because Jonah was a year older and in a MUCH better mood! Both boys had a great time and we were able to do everything this year! DOWT is held at an old railway museum with a lot of old working trains. So, you buy a ticket to take a ride on Thomas. Well, actually, Thomas pulls the coaches but you get to ride on a train that he is "pulling". (He isn't even an actual working engine - but you get the picture!!) Jonah was in absolute awe this year. As we were waiting to ride Thomas, he drove by and Jonah's jaw dropped open and he couldn't stop waving to Thomas. So cute!!! He was completely mesmerized. Big improvement from last year when he refused to crack a smile or acknowledge that is was fun in any way!! He couldn't believe he was actually going to get to ride on Thomas the train! When we got on, each seat was assigned a name of one of Thomas' friends. I think this year we sat in Salty. As we were riding along, a little boy behind us was looking out the window and talking about how neat Sodor is. We were driving through a less desirable part of town, so it seemed funny that he thought it was the beautiful island of Sodor!

Riding on Thomas!

After Thomas, we went to the Imagination Station. Jonah got a temporary tattoo of Rosie. Henry was all set to get his tattoo and then got super upset that they pulled his sleeve up, so Dan ended up with his tattoo. What a good Dad! Then we were off to the train tables. Dan refers to this place as Lord of the Flies. Kids basically battle it out for a train to drive around on the train tables. It's a bit brutal. Lots of crying. Lots of screaming. Lots of frustrated parents. Fortunately, the train table we went to had a few trains laying around so both boys were able to play with them. Overall, it's a bit silly since we have the same train table at home with much better trains to play with. Oh well, I guess this was new to them so it was better!

Picture is a little out of order but this is my boys posing by the sign in their cool Thomas shirts. We learned from last year and bought them Thomas shirts at Target for half the price of the shirts they sell at the event.

Henry claiming his train

Just when I think I've figured out how to load my pictures correctly, I see that I've failed. So they are all completely out of order. Again. Well, this is a cool place where they have all sorts of working signs with lights and bells for the kids to play with. They are all hooked up to buttons so the kids can push the button and see what the railway sign will do. It was pretty fun!

Inside one of the museums. Dan liked this old steam engine. They also had some tiny working model trains set up. They were pretty elaborate!

Back at the railway lights and signs. Jonah had a blast pushing all the buttons and waiting to see what they would do.

I saw this old brick sign and thought it was kind of neat.

We got to take out picture with Thomas too! Sadly, they wouldn't take a picture with our camera and we weren't going to pay $20 for one of their pictures, so Dan is the cameraman.

Switching rolls, I'm the cameraman while the boys meet Sir Topham Hat. He was pretty cute! Jonah was really excited to meet him!

Love my boys!!

Last thing was did was go on this little cable car type train that used to run through Los Angeles. It was similar to a bus inside but it rode on tracks. We sat at the very back which was fun because we could look out the big back window. Henry was SO tired. It was a very long day!

I LOVE Jonah's smile!!

matchy

What can I say? I'm a sucker for matching outfits. And these sweaters were unbelievably cute. Well, the boys made them even cuter!! Love these little guys! :)

halloween '11

We had such a great Halloween "season" this year!! We started it off painting pumpkin lanterns with some good friends. Jonah and Molly loved making a giant mess and painting their jars. They both did a great job. Even Henry got in on the act and painted a little bit of a jar before I had to help him finish it. Then we went to our first Halloween carnival at Molly's school. It was super cute and like the little carnivals I went to as a kid. Jonah and Henry wore their costumes and played little carnival games. It was so much fun and it only cost us $7, which included four hotdogs!! And we came home with a giant bag of candy! Finally, Halloween night came and the boys got to go trick or treating for the first time. We went over to friends house and a giant mob of us all hit the streets. The entire neighborhood was set up for trick or treating and there were families and kids everywhere. It was great! Thankfully we practiced trick-or-treating at home, so the boys knew just what to do. Jonah was excited to wish everyone a happy Halloween! Henry started off by saying "trick" but was able to say "trick-or-treat" by the end of the night - and "thank you" after he got his candy! Such a fun night! Can't wait until next year!!

Covered in paint but having fun!

Jonah got his first face painting at the Halloween carnival. The girls asked what he wanted and he came up with a dinosaur all on his own! He sat so still and was very proud of his dinosaur!!

Very focused!

Trying his had at the cake walk. He was so disappointed when he didn't win his own gigantic cake. I was relieved.

Halloween night. One street set up this bus and lights so the street was blocked from cars. That way we could all just walk down the street. They also had fun spooky music playing. So fun!!

Ready for more candy!

My cute little scarecrow!

He was so excited to play with the pumpkin tops!

Cutest little puppy ever!

He was so proud of his costume. He picked it out all by himself!

the zoo

We get a lot of use out of our zoo membership. It seems like everytime we go, the kids have fun - regardless of what animals we see! These are some fun pictures we took at the zoo in September. We decided to take one last trip, the weekend before Jonah turned three. Since we had membership passes before he turned three, he doesn't have a pass. So we wanted to get one last free use before we have to start paying for our big boy! As usual, we had a blast!

LOVE this picture! Dan is a super good photographer!

Every time we go, we HAVE to go to the play structure and the petting zoo. It's mandatory. So here we are, putting our time in!

Looks a little mischievous!

My Big Boy Turns 3

My sweet little Jonah turned three in September! I still can't believe he's already three! So to celebrate, we went to Grandma's house! He was so excited to see everyone but I think he was secretly more excited to play with Grandma's cars!! We had such a great time visiting with his aunt, uncles, cousins and both sets of grandparents. We had a little celebration at home with just he the four of us before we left, since his birthday was actually on a Sunday. It was cute to see Henry help him open his presents!!

Grammy brought all the kids some inflatable balloon/balls. They had a blast knocking them all over the house!

Blowing out his candle! We practiced for a few days before we came just to make sure his technique was correct (and there wasn't any flying spit!!)

This is actually what happens when you tell him to smile. For whatever reason, he opens his mouth! We have to tell him to "smile with your teeth" for him to give us a real smile! Love this boy!!

Daddy helped build the Cars remote control race track. Huge hit with the little guys!

Our little celebration at home. Henry handed out the presents and couldn't wait to help open them!

Smiling with his teeth!

Cute little cupcakes for the party. They were construction themed!
